10 Random Things About Me...

  1. I have a not-so-closeted obsession with Michael Bolton and many late-80s & early 90s glam-rockers (Bret Michaels, Sebastian Bach, Mike Tramp, etc).
  2. I was Alice in Christmasland in the 2nd grade, which confirmed my then-suspicion that I was the most important person in my entire elementary school.
  3. I'm one of the laziest people you will ever meet. Seriously. I will die of thirst rather than walk 5 feet to get a drink. Or even lean across the couch to reach it for that matter.
  4. I skipped kindergarten when I was 5 and started 1st grade. Further evidence that I was the coolest person at Chesterfield Elementary.
  5. I grew up in a rural town that I hated. I dreamed of living somewhere with sidewalks and a Dairy Queen I could walk to. All my life's ambitions realized in my 20s. How divine.
  6. I started smoking my senior year in high school and smoked a pack a day for 10 years. I still miss it almost every day.
  7. My first real job was working in the donut hut at Stony Creek Orchard. I scooped lard all day. I didn't eat cake donuts for 10 years after that.
  8. Prior to the donut gig, I was known by my family as the Pucky Queen because I scooped poop at a horse farm down the street (I told you it was rural).
  9. I lost 85 lbs 4 years ago on the Beaumont Diet. I gained 20 back AFTER giving birth - riddle me that :(
  10. My sister & I were obsessed with the musical Annie. We used to put the record on and do performances on our front porch. I also had several of her costumes - the party dress, karate suit, etc - and wore them regularly to school and family events.

Halfway there...

Well, Josh is 2-1/2 today. So what does that mean? The "Terrible Twos" are half over. That's not that encouraging though - I've heard from quite a few parents that 3 is much worse. So I'm not afraid, but I don't know how excited I am about that.

We've had quite a few accomplishments lately. The biggest one is we've now spent TWO WEEKS using the potty. Dry Pull-ups the last few nights and only 3 accidents the whole time (and all 3 were glorious)...so I'm encouraged. I'm not holding my breath yet.

Proud parenting moment (not really)

In the car en route to the gas station.

Josh: Do you hear that sound?
Me: What sound?
Josh: The gas station.
Me: You hear the gas station?
Josh: Yes. Do you hear that sound?
Me: Do you mean the cars, honey? Do you hear the noisy cars?
Josh: No, I hear the gas station. Do you hear it?
Me: What sound does a gas station make?
Josh: [long series of raspberries]

Ah ha - he means GAS station. Nice.

Another video

This is Josh having band practice with the Ross family - Sam on guitar, Eunice singing backing vocals.

Prayers last night...

Dear Jesus
Thank you for going on bike

Thank you for ice cream
Thank you for pee pee on potty
Thank you for Aunt Lisa's house
Thank you for picking flowers @ Aunt Lisa's house
Thank you for the frog at Aunt Lisa's house

Thank you for frog jumping at Aunt Lisa's house
Me: Okay honey, wrap it up.
A-moo.
You mean Amen.
A-moo.
Joshua, say Amen.
A-moo.
Do you want a time out?
Amen.
(whisper) A-moo.

Showerdays

Given his current aversion to bathing, I have a slight fear that Josh may turn out like the NOFX song Showerdays:
Once every 24 hours
I'm supposed to take a shower
that's not the way I do it
do it do it
personal hygiene is the last thing on my mind
I don't wanna do it
do it do it

You know it doesn't make a difference to me
everyday I do the same old thing
so why should I have to be clean ?
those dreaded Wednesdays and Saturdays
also known as shower days
I hate them

Hi-5 is coming...

Josh: What's happening?
Me: I don't know honey.
Josh: No, mama. Say "what's happening?"
Me: What's happening?
Josh: Hi-5 is coming! They're gonna do a show! In July!
Me: Cool.

two minutes later:
Josh: What's happening?

And so it goes...10 times a day every day for like a week now. We (or at least one of us) are obsessed. And frankly, they're so much less obnoxious than the Wiggles* that I'm a fan too. So in case you hadn't heard, Hi-5 is coming to Detroit on July 25th at Meadowbrook Music Festival. Ticket presale starts Tuesday @ 10 am. Be there or be square.

---
The Wiggles are also coming to Detroit in August. That's one show we'll pass on.
