Go before you go...

If you wanna save a little CO2, use the airport lavatory, not the one on the plane, since the fuel used for every mile-high flush could run a car for 6 miles.

Each lavatory visit emits 5.6 lbs of CO2 due to energy used flushing the toilet (airplanes use powered vacuums, not gravity like toilets at home). Hold it right there - go earlier, and skip cramped, nasty-smelling airplane bathrooms.

On short trips, flush before you fly, simple as that.

I have never used an airplane toilet, not even on my way to Paris, the whole, what was it 50,000 hours?1? But the first week of May I am flying to California, and I have already started thinking about the fact that chances are I am going to HAVE to go. It is a five hour flight, and right now, I am on a two- hour schedule at the max, usually it is more than that....gotta go right now...

Umm, yeah. Sorry to tell you this but the last few months, you spend more time on the toilet going pee than doing anything else. So you will have to use it. Just bring a seat cover - you'll survive!

Well, if you're like myself, you'll offset your carbon emissions over at carboncounter.com.

It gives me the peace of mind knowing I can go to the bathroom wherever I want and not have damaging environmental impact.
